Update on Interim Retail Size Cap Proposal

The Harrietstown Board had tabled any discussion or decision until January 2008.  The Village of Saranac Lake has discussed this as well and no action has been taken……until now.  In May 2008, the Saranac Lake Village Planning Board recommended the Village Board set an Interim Retail Size Cap.  This was the second recommendation.  Saranac Lake Village Board members vote unanimously to set a public hearing date using a proposed resolution presented on June 23, 2008.  The resolution calls for a retail size limit at 40,000 sq ft for single retail and 68,000 for shopping centers. 

The public hearing on this will be on July 14, 2008 at 6pm at the Harrietstown Hall.

Community News:

Saranac Lake has continued to grow in the past two years.  The Village has hired a new Village Manager and Community Development Director. Many foundations have been established thru the hard work of the many volunteer groups working together with the Town and Village.  To name a few of the Volunteer groups: The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Team; The Red Carpet Team; The Comprehensive Plan Committee; etc.  We hope to see, and be part of, building on these established foundations to bring smart economic growth within the next two years.

Stay tuned for future public meetings and forums to see what is happening.  Public input is so important in planning for our future.
